Bethesda Softworks on YouTube (name reveal teaser, 40th anniversary video); Bethesda Game Studios on X. Release timing is a report by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, not a Bethesda statement.

No characters appear in the teaser, but its YouTube description names one. It opens with a quote from "Yazar, Moth Priest to High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell," dated 4E 206: "The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate." Below it, one plain line: "Your next journey to Tamriel will be in The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel."

What is The Elder Scrolls 6 called?

Its full title is The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, a name that still comes with no Elder Scrolls 6 release date. Todd Howard announced it at the end of Celebrating 40 Years of Bethesda Game Studios, a nearly nine-minute retrospective Bethesda Softworks posted on YouTube on November 3 that starts with the studio's early sports games.

"Everybody's always asking about Elder Scrolls 6," Howard says near the end, as transcribed by PC Gamer. "And we thought, hey, given the moment, what a perfect time to tell you what The Elder Scrolls 6 is actually called."

Bethesda first teased The Elder Scrolls VI at E3 in June 2018, with a 36-second flyover and no subtitle, and the series' official site still describes the game as "currently in pre-production" on the day after the reveal.

What's in the Elder Scrolls 6 Sentinel teaser?

It's a title card, not a trailer. The Official Name Reveal is 65 seconds long: the camera moves over drifting sand until an ornate scroll case set with a blue gem surfaces, and the logo follows. There's no gameplay or in-engine footage.

Beyond the logo, the only text is the Moth Priest quote. In the series' lore, moth priests are by tradition the only people allowed to read the Elder Scrolls, per UESP, so the reveal is framed as a reading: "a future lost," "a victory undone." Bethesda hasn't said what the prophecy refers to.

Where is Elder Scrolls 6 set?

In Hammerfell, the Redguard homeland, with Sentinel as the named location. Bethesda Game Studios' post on X says the reveal shares "the name and location," and Sentinel is a real place in the series: a "great city of the Redguards" and the capital of the kingdom of the same name, in the northwestern hills of Hammerfell with the Iliac Bay to the north and the Alik'r Desert to the south, according to UESP's lore entry on Sentinel. Players have visited it before, in Arena, Daggerfall and The Elder Scrolls Online.

That 4E 206 date matters too: PC Gamer points out it's at least five years after the events of Skyrim. UESP's page for the game now lists Hammerfell as the setting and the start as circa 4E 206, though Bethesda itself hasn't said when the story begins. Over in The Elder Scrolls Online, the Golden Pursuits campaign "Alik'r Awaits" asks players to defend Alik'r "in celebration of Bethesda Game Studios' recent reveal."

Back in 2018, the teaser (above) flew over a rocky, partly green coastline with a ruined fort, and Bethesda never named the place. PC Gamer reads the sand in the new teaser as a nod to the Alik'r Desert.

Is Elder Scrolls 6 coming to PS5?

Nobody knows yet: neither the video nor Bethesda's post names a single platform, and the signals point both ways. Bethesda's own game catalog lists Starfield and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on PlayStation 5, and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on PlayStation. In June 2026, though, Xbox said Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will be Xbox console exclusives that "are not timed," while games "already announced for multiplatform releases will stick to that plan," as reported by VGC. Sentinel hasn't been announced for any platform, so neither precedent settles it.

How far away is Elder Scrolls 6?

Years, if the reporting is right. Bethesda Game Studios' post says "development continues, and while it'll be some time before we're ready to share more, it feels great to finally reveal the name and location with you." Bloomberg's Jason Schreier went further on Bluesky the same day: "Sorry to say this game is still more than 2 years away!" Dexerto notes he called it "two to three years away at least" in a Bloomberg Q&A in July. Both are his reporting, not Bethesda estimates. On the tech side, UESP lists Creation Engine 3, citing Howard's February 2026 interview on the Kinda Funny Gamescast.

What we don't know yet

  • A release date or even a release year.
  • Platforms, including whether there will be a PS5 version.
  • Any gameplay, playable races or how much of Hammerfell the map covers.
  • When Bethesda will show more; its post only says "some time."
