Casualties: Unknown started out as a pay-what-you-want download on itch.io, and the game's Steam reveal post says that version passed 300,000 downloads after its December 31, 2024 release. Its Steam demo has done bigger numbers since April: Oro Interactive says more than 500,000 players have tried it, that it ranked among Steam's top 10 most played demos daily, and that the game sat at 360,000 wishlists when the date was announced.
Casualties: Unknown release time: when does it unlock?
At 3pm CET on Monday, November 9, 2026. Orsoniks put the hour in its launch announcement on Steam ("released on November 9th, at 3pm CET"), and the store page's own release timestamp works out to 14:00 UTC, the same moment. Our Casualties: Unknown release date page has the live countdown, and the game is one of the PC launches on the November 2026 release calendar.

How much does Casualties: Unknown cost?
$22.99 in the US and €22.99 in the eurozone, per Oro Interactive's press kit, with a 15% launch discount. That's about $19.54 by our math; nobody has said how long the discount runs. Orsoniks promises "proper regional pricing" for the game and its soundtrack, so other currencies won't be straight conversions.
A soundtrack of more than 50 tracks (over three hours, per the developer) goes on sale at launch, alone or bundled with the game, and Orsoniks says further bundles will lower the price. Neither the soundtrack nor the bundles have a price yet.
Is it Early Access, and what does the full game add?
It's a full release. Steam shows no Early Access label, and the launch announcement says the game arrives "after almost 3 years of development." Where the demo stops after five of the 11 layers, the full game adds layers 6 to 11, three endings, three characters, 40 achievements, balance changes and bug fixes.
According to the September progress update, that's ten main layers, a shorter 11th and an optional bonus ending sequence. You start as the experiment and unlock the two other species by finishing a run with the previous character. Lost limbs aren't permanent anymore either: prostheses come in three tiers, and the top one beats the original limb.
Will my demo progress carry over?
Nobody has said. Neither Orsoniks nor Oro Interactive has addressed demo saves in anything we read, and the demo and the full game are separate apps on Steam. What the developer did confirm is that the demo "will not be updated," so it stays on the older build.
What kind of game is Casualties: Unknown?
A 2D cave-exploration survival sim where your own body is the main threat. You play an "experiment", a genetically altered creature used as a disposable unit, sent through the layers of an alien planet to recover lost cargo: one of thousands of test subjects sent down to die. Steam's store page lists a fully simulated cardiovascular and limb damage system, Intelligence, Strength and Resilience traits, crafting, 300 items and adjustable loot and danger settings.

In practice that means bandaging wounds, fighting infection and stopping blood loss before you pass out, while your character's mood drags on everything else. The v6.0 demo patch notes alone rebuilt the heart simulation and added two types of defibrillator, four new medicine types and venom. Rock Paper Shotgun's demo impressions called it "Noita for furries."

Steam Deck, PC requirements and languages
Valve hasn't rated it for Steam Deck yet, and Steam lists no controller support. GamingOnLinux says the demo "works fine with Proton 11" on SteamOS and Linux, and two players in a Steam forum thread say it's playable on Deck with a custom Steam Input layout, since it needs quick, precise cursor control.
On PC, Steam lists only minimum requirements, and they're light: Windows 10 with a 64-bit processor, an Intel Core i3-8130U at 2.20 GHz and 500 MB of storage, with 16:9, 16:10 and ultrawide screens supported. No RAM or graphics card is listed. It's single-player, in English and Simplified Chinese (interface and subtitles).
How has the demo been received?
Very well. On Steam the demo is rated Overwhelmingly Positive, with 95% of 4,896 English reviews and 94% of 613 Simplified Chinese reviews positive as of November 7, 2026.
What we don't know yet
- How long the 15% launch discount lasts, and regional prices outside the US and eurozone.
- What the soundtrack and the bundles cost.
- Whether demo saves work in the full game.
- A Steam Deck rating from Valve.
