- Steam store page and the developer's Steam announcements; player peak from Steam's Most Played chart; Steam Deck rating from Valve's compatibility report
Probably Stolen peaked at 167,250 players on November 5, according to Steam's own Most Played chart. That's eight days after launch and well above the "112,000+" launch-day peak the developer celebrated on day two. At 11:46 UTC on November 6, a Friday morning in Europe, Steam's player-count API still showed 133,405 people playing. Its second week is busier than its launch day was.
What is Probably Stolen?
Probably Stolen is a shopkeeping sim set on a dystopian space station, where you run a pawnshop and decide how dirty your margins get. The Steam store page casts you as a former scavenger with a storefront, a loan and rising rent. You can cut product quality, relabel counterfeits as genuine, or fence stolen goods, and every customer might be Security fishing for evidence. The goal is to buy the shop from your landlord before the rent buries you, which is also how the game ends: the 1.0 launch post says you then get your full stats, from your most profitable sale to days survived. It came out on October 28, one of the games released in October 2026, after tinyBuild revealed the date and a new demo during its tinyBuild Connect 2026 stream on September 14.

How many starting scenarios are there?
Nine, according to the 1.0 launch post, which names Apprentice, Water Merchant, Fence, Gunsmith, Chemist, Hydroponic Farmer, Aquafarmer, Rat Wrangler and Rock Bottom, plus four difficulty options you pick after the scenario. The developer's own descriptions give the gist of each:
| Scenario | What it is, per the developer |
|---|---|
| Apprentice | Generalist, best for beginners |
| Water Merchant | Test, purify and relabel water, or don't; the liability is yours |
| Fence | Stolen goods |
| Gunsmith | Weapons and mods, high margins, Security inspections; starts with a Class 1 weapon permit |
| Chemist | Profitable chemicals and closely guarded recipes |
| Hydroponic Farmer | Grow crops in a small space, ending with genetically modified breeds |
| Aquafarmer | Breed fish and manage tank water quality |
| Rat Wrangler | Grow a healthy rat |
| Rock Bottom | Start with nothing, maximum difficulty |

Steam's description sums up the trade-off: weapons bring inspections, chemicals bring addiction, water brings liability and contraband brings raids.
Is Probably Stolen co-op or multiplayer?
No. Steam lists Probably Stolen as single-player only, and none of the developer's announcements mention co-op or multiplayer plans. What it does have is Steam Workshop support with a modding API, which the developer says already had dozens of mods on launch day.
How much does Probably Stolen cost?
$19.99 in the US, €19.99 in the eurozone and £16.99 in the UK, per the developer's global pricing post, with a 10% introductory discount on Steam until November 11 that puts it at $17.99. The Supporter Edition bundles the game with the soundtrack for $24.98 before discounts ($20.68 on November 6), and the soundtrack alone is $4.99. Owners of Potion Craft, ReStory and a few other games get extra bundle discounts. The same post lists other regional prices, including ¥1,999 in Japan, A$24.99 in Australia, C$24.99 in Canada and zł49.99 in Poland.
Does Probably Stolen work on Steam Deck?
Valve rates it Playable, the middle tier, not Verified. Valve's compatibility report notes that some in-game text is small and may be hard to read, that the game shows PC button prompts rather than Deck ones, and that some functions can't be reached with the default controller layout, so you may need the touchscreen. It also says the default configuration runs well. The minimum PC requirements are modest: Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i3, 8 GB of RAM, a GTX 650 Ti-class GPU and 1 GB of storage. Steam lists a mouse-only option but no controller support on the store page.

What's coming in the next Probably Stolen update?
Free content updates, starting with new starting scenarios. Questing Goose's pre-launch 1.0 overview lists the Organ Trader scenario ("for the Butcher fans"), the Junker scenario, "coming shortly after launch", and a Street Food Vendor scenario. Also planned: a main storyline expansion that affects the station and the ending, Expeditions where you recruit people such as scavs and send them on runs, and new items to appraise. None of these has a date. The most recent patch as of November 6 is 1.0.0.6 from October 31, a security update for the modding system.
How well is Probably Stolen selling?
Very well, by the developer's own count. Its Steam announcements went from 200,000 copies sold in the first few hours on October 28, to 350,000 in 24 hours, to 500,000 on October 30, with a 96% positive score from nearly 3,000 Steam reviews at that point. The demo had already put it among the most-played demos of Steam Next Fest, and the game passed 500,000 wishlists the day before launch.
Players and critics aren't quite in the same place. Steam users sit at Overwhelmingly Positive (96% of 3,245 English reviews on November 6), while the five critic reviews on Metacritic add up to a 70, "Mixed or Average". The playtest feedback the developer published in September asked for more of everything (customers, perks, items and machines), which lines up with what the roadmap promises.
What we don't know yet
- Release dates for the Junker, Organ Trader and Street Food Vendor scenarios and the other roadmap items.
- Whether Probably Stolen is coming to consoles, Mac or Linux. Neither tinyBuild nor the developer has announced other versions.
- An updated sales figure. Questing Goose last posted one on October 30: 500,000.
